RYA Start yachting

This course is perfect for complete beginners. You need no prior experience, just some enthusiasm to learn. By the end of the course, you will have experience in steering a yacht, tying knots and have a general knowledge of sailing.

Sailing is about having fun, so we run the weekend with this in mind. You can expect a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of learning opportunities, and we make sure everyone on board is feeling safe. We understand some people may be a little nervous stepping on board a yacht for the first time, but we are there to help you with whatever you need. And we will do our best to make you a great sailor!

How the course works‍

We aim to meet on Friday evening for dinner before the course starts at Port Hamble Marina. It’s a good way to get to know your fellow crew and enjoy a lovely meal in one of the many local pubs Hamble has to offer. We then set off sailing on Saturday morning and return to Port Hamble Marina on Sunday late afternoon.

Once you’ve completed this course, you can go onto complete the RYA Competent Crew course in a reduced time of three days or two weekends.
