Practical course

RYA Competent Crew

If you would like to become a more active crew member rather than just a passenger, then this is the course for you. This five-day course teaches helming, handling sails, understanding the manoeuvres for tacking and gybing and learning to tie those all-important knots!

You can expect a fun and relaxed atmosphere with plenty of learning opportunities across the weekend. Sailing is about having fun after all, and we want to make sure you come away from this weekend with a new passion for sailing!

Duration

5 days (or 3 days if you have completed the Introduction to Sailing course)

How the course works

We aim to meet in the evening the night before the course starts at Port Hamble Marina. It’s a good way to get to know your fellow crew. This also allows us time to discuss and brief everyone on the plan for the next five days.

The next day we set off bright and early to start the course. We all stay on board for the duration of the course, and on the last day, we will return to Port Hamble Marina with enough time for people to make their commute home.
