RYA Coastal Skipper

The RYA Coastal Skipper course is designed for advanced sailors with considerable prior knowledge of sailing and navigation. A perfect link between the Day Skipper and the full RYA/MCA Yachtmaster examination. You will be required to skipper challenging passages and learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations.

Like the Day Skipper course, this course consists of skippered passages in a variety of situations. Each trainee will skipper more challenging passages. It is a satisfying but intensive week, with candidates working towards being awarded the RYA Coastal Skipper Course Completion Certificate.

We would expect you to complete the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore theory course beforehand as there is insufficient time to teach you theory during the week. If you have the theory knowledge but not the qualification give us a call as it may be sufficient.

By the end of the course you should have the knowledge, if not the experience, to become a Yachtmaster.

How the course works‍

We will meet at Port Hamble Marina at 7pm before the course. This gives you a chance to meet your fellow crew and allows us time to discuss and brief everyone on the plan for the course.

Requirements from you

Minimum age 17
15 days, 300 miles, 2 days as skipper, 8 night hours
RYA Day Skipper certificate or equivalent and shorebased Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster
